Defragmentation means to, “reorganize separated fragments of related data on into a contiguous arrangement” according to the Merriam Webster Dictionary. This term is used in the context of computing but we applied it to the context of architecture by choosing elements from references (houses by the LA Ten including the Petal House by Eric O. Moss and the Gehry Residence by Frank Gehry). We then classified and overlaid these elements around a triangle to form graphic compositions, and from these we proceeded to use them as section cuts to form a larger 3D object with architectural qualities—or an “architecton.” The transition from 2D to 3D was handled in different ways through lofting, extrusions, and arrays.
